This guide to Nevada veteran benefits covers both state programs run through the Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS) and partner agencies, and federal VA benefits (health care, disability compensation, GI Bill®, VA home loans). This guide focuses on Nevada-specific benefits veterans and eligible family members use most often—property and vehicle tax exemptions, higher-education waivers, state veterans homes, employment preference, parks and wildlife, and where to get free local help—updated for 2026.
Programs, dollar amounts, and eligibility rules change. Always confirm with the official agency linked below, the Nevada Department of Veterans Services, your county assessor, or the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs before you apply.
Nevada Veteran Benefits: Population & Overview
The Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS) is the state lead for connecting veterans, service members, and families to federal and state benefits—claims, education, housing resources, employment, health resources, and caregivers/survivors. NDVS fields VA-accredited Veterans Service Officers (VSOs) through Veterans Advocacy and Support Teams (VAST) statewide; claims and appeals assistance is free.
Nevada has no state individual income tax. Primary state tax benefits for veterans are property and vehicle privilege tax exemptions (wartime and disabled paths). Federal VA touchpoints include the Reno VA Regional Benefit Office (disability, education, insurance, pension, home loans) at 5460 Reno Corporate Dr., Reno, NV 89511, plus medical facilities via the VA facility finder. Use VA VetPop or NDVS for official population counts when planning.
